STRYPER Guitarist: 'We Have Been Called Back To Do This'
October 31, 2005Metal-Exiles.com recently conducted an interview with STRYPER guitarist Oz Fox. An excerpt from the chat follows:
Metal-Exiles.com: The record is out now and doing well so what do you see past this current tour you are on?
Oz: "There will be more dates, we are working on some Euro dates and we are wanting to put out the DVD that we shot in Puerto Rico. There will probably be a video shot for one of our singles, which one I have no idea. We will continue to work the record up until sometime next year. I was also told that we might get on a package tour that plays arenas with some other big names, hopefully that will happen. Not being around for a long time, you have to start over."
Metal-Exiles.com: So do you see more STRYPER albums?
Oz: "I see many more STRYPER albums. We have been called back to do this."
Metal-Exiles.com: You guys ended so abruptly, what happened?
Oz: "Our label dropped us, music was changing, people were looking at us a different way, there was disillusionment and it just was not a good time for us to continue so we stopped. I gave up music altogether and just went into the workforce."
Metal-Exiles.com: Did you not work in a warehouse?
Oz: "Yeah, I worked in one up until the end of July then we started doing some traveling and promotions for the album."
Metal-Exiles.com: Was it hard to quit?
Oz: "It was a little scary but the greatest thing is that God has provided, where God leads God provides."
Metal-Exiles.com: Did you guys do really well back in the heyday?
Oz: "Not as much as people might have thought we did. I am sure they think we did millions but that is not the case. I can honestly say that in the 8 years I was in STRYPER I might have made a half a million but due to things happening at the end I had nothing to show for it."
Metal-Exiles.com: Before we close out, I want to know what you think of the current crop of hardcore bands going around saying that they are Christian. Do you think they are doing it as a trend or being honest about it?
Oz: "Some of them maybe, some of them may not be. It is what you see in their personal lives. If you see that they are truly following Christianity then I feel they are sincere. If they are out partying, drinking, sleeping around or whatever, then they are not. The Bible says you will know them by the way they lead their lives."
